How to find your laptop brand and model

It's essential to know the correct laptop brand and series, model number to find the correct part for your laptop, such as laptop battery or laptop ac adapter. The notebook brand and series is typically displayed on the top cover, keyboard area or display panel when you open your laptop up. For starters, your owner's manual should have the brand and model number on the front cover. If you don't have your owner's manual then almost every laptop has a manufacturer's label on the bottom of the computer. This label should have the brand and model number on it. Please follow the guidlines to find your laptop brand and model by laptop manufacturers.

For Windows Users

For Windows 98 - Vista users, you may turn on your computer and follow these instructions:

Go to your desktop.
Click 'Start' on the bottom left of the screen.
Mouse over 'Programs' > 'Accessories' > 'System Tools'
Click on 'System Information'.
Your computer's manufacturer, model, etc. will be listed on the following page.

HP HEWLETT PACKARD Laptop Model Number

Locate the Model Number on the Service Tag placed on the bottom of your Notebook PC. The Service Tag will resemble the picture below.

Product Name: The Product Name, which will also typically be on the front of your notebook, is not the correct information for either the Series or the Model, it is usually a brand name for an entire set of series and models. This information should NOT be used to find the correct parts for your laptop.
Model: This is the correct identifier for your laptop model. Please disregard the #ABA at the end of the model name.
Series: This is the correct identifier for your laptop series.

IBM / Lenovo Laptop Model Number

The location of the label containing the model number of your machine can be found in different places, as shown below. You are looking for either the "Type", the P/N (product number), or the Model on the label, do not use the S/N (serial number) information.

ThinkPad - The label can generally be found on the bottom of the machine.
ThinkCentre, NetVista, IBM PC, and IntelliStation - The label can typically be found on the right front panel.
Aptiva - It varies by system. View detailed descriptions.
IBM eServer xSeries, Netfinity and PC Server - The label can be found on the back panel.
IBM Monitors/Flat Panels - View detailed descriptions.
Ispirati - The label can be found at the bottom of the left side of your system.

The label typically looks like one of the following pictures:

For this type of label, the Model is the Model Number.

For this type of label, the P/N is the Model Number.

DELL Laptop Model Number

Locate the Dell Notebook part number on the service tag placed on the bottom of your Laptop. if you can't read your model number, or if the Laptop doesn't make that clear. Click Here and put in your Service Tag number. Your service tag is a 7 digit alpha-numeric number located on the bottom of your Laptop or on the back of your desktop. Once you click go the next page will tell you your system model. You may also find the battery part number, which are printed on the back of the battery as illustrated below

SONY Laptop Model Number

Sony laptop series and model numbers begin with the letters "PCG" or "VGN" and are located on a small label on the frame around the LCD display or above the keyboard. The label is normally the same color as the case with contrasting letters. The model number is typically a more detailed variation of the series number - both numbers can be obtained from the same label.

NOTE: Do not use the "Model" listed on the grey label on the back of the computer as this will not provide the correct information.
