HP Laptop Battery Calibration


After using the laptop for months, you may faced that your HP notebook or tablet PC on the battery power available in one cycle being less than expected or the battery meter being inaccurate. It's maybe time to recondition or recalibrate your HP laptop battery.

When to calibrate HP laptop battery

  • Under normal usage, the HP laptop batteries should not be calibrated more than once every 3 months.
  • The battery status display is likely inaccurate.
  • A significant change occurs in normal battery run time.

How to calibrate HP laptop battery

  1. Disable the Windows Power Management
    • Select Start > Control Panel > Display > "Screen Saver" tab > Click "Power" button.
    • Write down the settings in each column, so you can reset them after calibration.
    • Under Power schemes, select Always On in the drop down menu. Select the drop-down lists and set all options to Never.
    • Click OK button on the window.
  2. Charge the laptop battery until it¡¦s fully charged
    • Insert the battery pack into the notebook.
    • Connect the HP AC adapter to the laptop.
    • Charge HP laptop battery until the Windows battery meter is at 100%.
    • Keep the fully charged state for two hours or more
  3. Fully discharge the laptop battery
    • Disconnect power adapter
    • Use your HP charger battery until the notebook automatically turns off (empty state)
  4. Fully Charge the laptop battery again
    • Connect the power adapter and charge the battery until it¡¦s full
  5. Enable the Windows Power Management
    • Select Start > Control Panel > Display > "Screen Saver" tab > Click "Power" button.
    • Reset the settings which you write down at Step 1. Or select Portable/Laptop in the drop down menu.

After completing the above steps, you have finished calibrating your HP laptop battery. You may also apply the similar step to calibrate the Compaq laptop battery, Sony laptop battery, Dell laptop battery, and so on.
